E. Louise (nee Ebbett) Estabrooks

1924-2012

E. Louise (nee Ebbett) Estabrooks
ESTABROOKS, (nee Ebbett) E. Louise
May 15, 1924 - August 17, 2012

Louise Estabrooks died in the early hours of August 17th at CapitalCare Grandview Nursing Home in Edmonton, Alberta after a long struggle with dementia. She did not go gentle into that good night.

Louise moved to Alberta in 2003 and was a resident of Grandview from June 2006 until her death. She is survived by her daughter Carole Estabrooks of Edmonton and in New Brunswick, son James (Laurie) Estabrooks, brother Olys (Arlene) Ebbett, grandchildren Joel, Seth and Amber, great grand daughter Jade, sisters-in-law Anna Jewett and Jean Estabrooks (Mesa, AZ), as well as, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Louise was predeceased by her husband, Francis (1990), brother Eldon (1978), and parents Charles (1957) and Winifred (1990) Ebbett.

Louise was born in Stickney and lived in Carleton County for nearly 80 years. She was deeply influenced, as were many of her generation, by the Great Depression and WWII. She graduated from East Florenceville High School in 1942, went to Normal School and taught school in Oakland in the midst of that war. She and Francis lived in Vancouver in 1947 and she retained a love of that city. Louise lived in Simonds for 40 years and was a Pythian Sister for many of those years in Hartland, as well as, a Linotype operator for 17 years at the Hartland Observer. She and Francis used to love the harness races. In later years, she lived again in Stickney close to her brother Olys (and Arlene) and nephew Charles (and Gail). Those were good years for Louise. She kept four Seniors groups busy, went to endless yard sales, continued to garden with a ferocious green thumb and won the Atlantic Region Seniors’ Games gold medal in “auction 45’s”; Louise was a terrific card player. She had a great laugh and a wonderful smile. She follows many with whom she was close, on her journey … but she would want a nod to her cherished father Charles, her beloved Aunt Gladys (Drake), and her dear friend of 58 years Irene Rosevear.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Britton Funeral Home in Hartland, New Brunswick on September 24, 2012 at 1.00 PM. All who knew Louise are welcome to this remembrance of her life. Reverend Ken Weir of Oromocto, Hospital Chaplain at the Saint John Regional Hospital when Francis died and who brought Louise much comfort at that time, will lead the Memorial Service. A brief reception with light refreshments will follow in the same location. Her cremains will rest in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland.

In lieu of flowers, donations of time can be made to your local nursing home or donations of money can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick.
