Ina Ruth Everett

1940-2020

Ina Ruth Everett

Ina Ruth Everett, April 8, 1940 – November 21, 2020

Ina Ruth Everett was born in Wilmot Parish, New Brunswick on April 8, 1940, to Frank and (Helen) Mae McLean. She graduated from Hartland High School in 1958, and then gained a college diploma in Administration and Medical Records through correspondence courses with the University of Toronto. Ina worked as an administrator for the Fredericton Hospital until she married Floyd Emery Everett in 1966. They started married life in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, then began their family in East Lahave, eventually moving to First Peninsula, then on to Moncton, New Brunswick. Ina worked her entire life in medical administration: in hospitals, consultant physician offices and in the evenings at home in medical transcription. Ina coordinated medical internships, managed triage schedules for the Victorian Order of Nurses, and then spent her later years working as a pharmacy technician. She was well known for her excellent organizational skills, friendly nature, forthright ‘take charge’ manner, and general practical advice.

Ina was first and foremost an excellent wife and best friend to her husband Floyd Everett. Together they spent many years in Christian ministry, leading churches, with Floyd preaching and Ina playing piano. Their faith was the cornerstone of their relationship. Together with their children, they spent many summers camping, canoeing and hiking. They set an example of travel and exploration by travelling together all across Canada to visit National Parks. They then followed their children to travel to England, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand and Jamaica, keeping in contact with letters and cards, and as always, via Ham Radio. Ina (VE1INA) and Floyd (VE1KE) then enjoyed a retirement camping in their Boler Trailer, travelling to Ham Festivals to sell their ‘Jacob’s Ladder' antennas. They even climbed Mount Carleton again, and enjoyed much of their time visiting with extended family, neighbors and friends from their little home back in Victoria Corner where Ina grew up.

Ina was an active volunteer over the years with the Gideon’s, Christian Women’s Clubs, Home and School Associations, and as a fundraiser for ALS and Parkinson’s Society. She was a church treasurer, and was active in the Women’s Institute. She was known as a hard worker, a good neighbor and friend who always had time to make you more than you wanted to eat.

Ina took her vows of ‘in sickness and health’ with great commitment. After Floyd was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, they could no longer go out adventuring as much. Instead they made a comfortable life with their beautiful views of the Saint John River, their bird feeders and small gardens, and frequent faithful visitors. After her husband’s death, Ina moved to Fredericton to be near her brothers and sisters, and had the joy and comfort of living with her ‘little sister’ Lois. Ina and Lois were an inseparable pair, and remained together until Ina moved to Ontario for her final years with her daughter and grand-daughters. Ina died peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy of love, admiration, and respect for a life lived well.

Ina passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Mono, with her daughter and two grand daughters by her side. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Everett in 2014; son-in-law, Kennerell Stahl; and an older infant brother, Lawrence.

Ina is survived by her children, Jerry Everett and his wife Martha Muller, of Utrecht, Netherlands, Dwight Everett of Moncton, New Brunswick, Linda Stahl of Mono, Ontario; granddaughters, Honour Stahl, Anna Stahl, both from Mono, Ontario; siblings, Dwain (Joan) McLean, Darrel (Tanya) McLean, Dorene (William) Alexander, Lois McLean, all of Fredericton, New Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.

Ina’s funeral will be held at the Waterville Baptist Church on August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a committal, visitation and reception.  All are welcome. The family has requested that face masks be worn during the service. If so desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick. www.brittonfh.ca. 506-375-4343
