In Loving Memory of Danny Joseph Maher
May 5, 1954 – June 10,
2026
It is with great sadness that we
announce the passing of Danny Joseph Maher, who passed away peacefully
on June 10, 2026, at the Upper River Valley Hospital after a
courageous seven-year battle with ALS. He was 72 years
old.
Born on May 5, 1954, in
Gaspé, Quebec, Danny was a resident of the Hartland area
for the past 30 years. He was a man who found happiness in life's
simple pleasures and lived life on his own terms. He had a deep
passion for classic cars and could often be found working on them,
restoring them, or taking them out for a drive. For Danny, it didn't
matter where the road led—what mattered was being behind the
wheel, feeling the freedom of the open road.
Some of his happiest moments were
spent by the water. On warm evenings, he would sit by a fire on the
beach with a cold beer in hand, watching the stars overhead and
listening to the rhythm of the waves long into the night, often until
the early hours of the morning. Those quiet moments reflected the
peace and appreciation he had for the world around
him.
Danny will be lovingly remembered by
his sons, DJ and Dylan Maher and he will be fondly remembered by
family and friends whose lives were touched by his presence. His
strength, determination, independence, and appreciation for life's
simple joys will remain in the hearts of those who knew
him.
The family would like to express their
heartfelt gratitude to Julie and to the staff and caregivers at the
Upper River Valley Hospital, for the compassion, kindness, and care
they provided throughout Danny's illness.
To family and friends who may have
felt left in the dark over the years, please know that Danny was a
stubborn man who never wanted to be a burden on anyone. Though he may
have lost touch, he never stopped keeping track of your lives in his
own way, and he thought of you often. The distance was never a
reflection of a lack of care—it was simply his way of
carrying his struggles quietly.
In keeping with Danny's wishes, there
will be no visitation, funeral, or memorial service. Arrangements are
under the care of Britton Funeral Home, Hartland, New Brunswick. His
ashes will be scattered at one of his favorite places on
earth—a place where he found peace, freedom, and
contentment.
As we say goodbye, we remember a man
who loved the open road, treasured quiet nights beneath the stars, and
faced life's challenges with determination and resilience. May his
memory live on in every classic car that rumbles down a country road,
every beachside fire, and every clear night sky filled with
stars.
